Welcome to Mrs. Solari's Class page!
Welcome to our first grade classroom! First grade is a wonderful year of learning and growing. This will be my fifteenth year teaching at Lebanon Elementary School, and look forward to this as our best year of learning, playing, and sharing together! I will be providing updates on an almost weekly basis to inform you of what we are learning and how you can support your child's learning in the home. Buckle up- it will be an exciting year!
I am known in the school as the "Ladybug" Teacher! During the months of September and October we have learned about the life cycle of the lady bug. Below please see our students as they observe and record data about their observations in their science observation logs.

In December we explore cultural traditions associated with the December holidays. We "visit" Russia, Sweden, Mexico, and Germany as we learn about holiday traditions in these countries. We play the dreidel game, make luminaria, and St. Lucia crowns. We make and write about our gingerbread houses. We write about the different traditions that we have experienced. We create a suitcase to store our celebrations from around the world.
In winter we write about small moment, personal narratives. We write about our own experiences in our lives. We learn how to collaborate and peer edit in our Writers' Workshop. We learn to use tools that authors use to make a story come to life! We share our final publications in a whole group activity.
Later in the year we learn about poetry. We learn about different kinds of poems and tools that poets use to create mental images and express feelings to the reader. We learn to write different kinds of poems, including diamond poems.
In Math we explore many different math concepts. In these pictures were are working in groups as we explore concepts of measurement.
